About William Grant & Sons
William Grant & Sons is an independent, family-owned Scottish company that distills Scotch whisky and other premium spirits. It was established in 1887 by William Grant, himself, and was geared towards a simple goal of “making the best dram in the valley.” This legacy still remains true until today and has been an inspiration for the company in all of its ventures.
The founder was born in Dufftown in 1839. He started working at a young age as a bookkeeper at Mortlach Distillery. From there, he began his dreams of becoming a distillery owner. He was very determined and worked hard until he was able to achieve his dream by opening his family’s own distillery at Glenfiddich. He and his nine children helped him run the first spirit from the still on Christmas Day in 1887. In 1892, he bought the Balvenie Distillery and started blending the whiskies of the two distilleries together. This created the world-famous Grant’s blended whisky.
William Grant started expanding internationally and began to thrive in 30 countries; however, the company was forced to shut down in 1917 due to war and Prohibition internationally. The company was able to reopen in 1919 and was passed down to his children and its four succeeding generations.
Whisky Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Glenfiddich Bourbon Barrel Reserve 14 Year Old Scotch Whisky has a light caramel hue with a faint hint of aged oak on the nose. The whisky is soft at first with a light hint of smoke which turns into sweet caramel at the end. I also pick up a hint of cherry.
