Whisky Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Kisoyama Yuhi Whisky has a light gold hue with aromas of sweet vanilla, light wood and sugar. This is a light whisky that starts sweet and has a slightly smoky wood flavor. This whisky neat tastes a bit ‘alcoholy’ but with a dash of water it really opens it up. After adding the water it starts sweet, woody and ends with a hint of cinnamon. It’s much better with a dash of H20!

  1. This is a very approachable whiskey. Light in color and very easy drinking, if a little boring if you’re a seasoned whiskey fan. Very smooth, thin on the palate, starts with hints of vanilla and floral notes, with just enough spirit without the burn. Nice light smoky wood midway, and finishes with light baking spice (cinnamon, the dry baking spice, not the hot oily stuff). Not a Scotch-like as I was expecting, like many Japanese whiskeys can be. Does nothing offensive, but nothing stellar. A great dram for someone new to whiskey or someone looking for a pleasant and easy sipper.

  2. I couldn’t agree with Roger any more! The Yuhi is a subtly sweet, mild spice, mild floral Japanese Whisky with a virtual zero burn. The nose at first opening does seem to be a bit alcohol forward, but after breathing a bit that all disappears. I have only sipped this neat, but can attest to it’s easy drinking, considering it has been 110° F here for 2 months, and this Whisky is a perfect fit for long hot burning days and unseasonably warm evenings.
