About Jack Daniel Distillery
Jasper Newton Daniel “Jack” left his home in 1864 and was taken in by Reverend Dan Call at the Call Family farm. The Reverend and a slave named Nathan “Nearest” Green would teach Jack the art of making whiskey. In 1866 the Jack Daniel Distillery was officially registered in Lynchburg, TN, making it the first registered distillery in the United States and Jack would hire Nathan to be the head distiller.

In 1906, Jack would arrive at work and be unable to open his safe. He kicked the safe out of frustration; breaking his toe and the injury would worsen and eventually take Jack’s life. Without a wife or heir, Jack left his land and distillery to his nephew Lem Motlow. Production continued but the distillery was shut down during Prohibition, and later during World War II.

Jack Daniels really gained its popularity with the music industry. “Old Blue Eyes” Frank Sinatra loved Jack Daniels. JD also became popular during the British Invasion (1966), the punk movement (1967) and hair metal (1981).

In 1988 Jack Daniels would introduce Gentleman Jack; followed years later by Single Barrel Select (1997), Tennessee Honey (2011), Single Barrel Rye (2015), Tennessee Fire (2015) and Jack Apple (2019).

Jack Daniel’s is now crafted by Master Distiller Jeff Arnett who took over in 2008 and produces fine whiskeys in the spirit of Jasper Newton Daniel!

Tennessee Whiskey Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey has a light caramel hue. The nose has strong scents with a mellow aroma of sweet oak. This is a refined whiskey as you can really see what double charcoal mellowing does. The flavors are smooth, with a charred oak flavor followed by a mouthful of sweetness. I guess this is truly sweet, sweet Tennessee Whiskey.
