About The Glenlivet Distillery
In 1822, George Smith was illegally distilling whisky in the Livet valley. In 1824 there was a change in legislation and George got a license to become the first legal distiller in the parish of Glenlivet. By 1839 The Glenlivet Distillery was producing more than 200 gallons of whisky a week. George would pass away in 1871 and his youngest son John Gordon Smith would take over the business.
The Glenlivet brand is currently owned by Pernod Ricard and is the biggest selling single malt whisky in the United States and the second biggest globally.
