About Blanton’s Bourbon
Blanton’s Bourbon was launched in 1984 by Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee at what is now Buffalo Trace Distillery. It was revolutionary because it was the first commercially available single barrel bourbon, a concept inspired by Colonel Albert B. Blanton, a legendary figure who managed the distillery for over 50 years (starting in 1897).
Colonel Blanton was known for hand-picking exceptional “honey barrels” from Warehouse H for his own consumption. Elmer T. Lee honored this tradition by ensuring all Blanton’s bourbon comes from this same unique, metal-cladded Warehouse H.
The brand is also famous for its distinctive grenade-shaped bottle and collectible horse and jockey stoppers (introduced in 1999). Initially gaining popularity in Japan, Blanton’s eventually became a global icon, creating the “super-premium” bourbon category and influencing the single barrel trend in the whiskey world.
